The 'Nobel Women' e-book is dedicated to a selection of women winners of the Nobel Prize in Science and Literature, two of the disciplines established by its founder, the Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel. 

Over the 119 years since the famous Nobel Prize was first awarded in 1901, only 53 women have received it: 

            18 have received the Nobel Peace Prize 

            15 have received the Nobel Prize for Literature 

            12 have received the Nobel Prize in Medicine 

            5 have received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 

            3 have received the Nobel Prize in Physics 

The book aims to spread the life and work developed by a group of women referents in the field of literature, such as Selma Lagerlöf, known worldwide for her work 'The wonderful journey of Nils Holgersson through Sweden' and in the field of research, such as Maria Skłodowska-Curie, the first woman to be awarded and the first person to receive the famous award twice and both times in science. The book begins with the life of Alfred Nobel himself, Swedish inventor and creator of the famous awards that have linked his surname to the pinnacle of prestige. 

The selected women come from different eras, countries and social strata, but they all have tenacity and the fight for an ideal in common.

The purpose of this e-book is giving visibility to the capacity and worth of women's work and breaking down the barriers of stereotypes to demonstrate that there is no distinction of sex or race to achieve excellence in many different disciplines. 

The authors of the book, Belén Yuste and Sonnia L. Rivas-Caballero, are creators and curators of the exhibition 'Nobel Women', inaugurated at the National Museum of Natural Sciences in 2017. The exhibition has toured various entities in Spain and, translated into French and English, has started its roaming around Europe, starting with Villa Nobel in San Remo, where Alfred Nobel passed away on December 10, 1899.
